Dr. James P. Frackelton - founder,
Preventive Medicine Group
July 19, 1927 - November 30, 2012

It is with deep sorrow that Preventive Medicine Group announces the passing of its founder, James P. Frackelton, M.D. A far-sighted thinker and an innovative leader, Dr. Frackelton was one of the worldwide pioneers of what is now known as complementary alternative medicine, holistic medicine or integrative medicine.

A graduate of Yale University and Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Dr. Frackelton practiced medicine for over fifty-four years. After twenty years of family practice, his interest in alternative therapies, nutrition and a more natural approach toward health and healing led him to start Preventive Medicine Group in 1976. Preventive Medicine Group grew into a premier world-class alternative medical clinic. For the past thirty-six years, Preventive Medicine Group has offered the finest of care using nutritionally based, cutting edge, innovative natural therapies and will continue to do so.

The legacy of Dr. Frackelton will live on. Preventive Medicine Group will continue the work begun by Dr. Frackelton and his partner of many years, Derrick Lonsdale, M.D. At this time, Helen Kwon, M.D., Ronald Casselberry, M.D., and Todd Pesek, M.D. will offer continuity of care for all patients of Preventive Medicine Group, including those of Dr. Frackelton. Together with the excellent support staff of Preventive Medicine Group, these fine and capable physicians remain here to serve your medical needs and those of your friends and family.

We will all miss Dr. Frackelton. However, the best thing we can do to honor and remember him, is to continue with the work begun by this fearless medical leader.

James P. Frackelton, M.D. received his undergraduate education from Yale University and his MD degree from Case Western Reserve University. After an extra year in Immunology and hospital training, he spent two and a half years in the U.S. Navy where he served as a flight surgeon. He established practice in Westlake in 1958 emphasizing Family Practice with a specialty in Exercise Cardiology. As chairman of the Family Practice Department at Fairview General Hospital, he established the Family Practice Residency program.

In 1976, Dr. Frackelton changed the direction of his medical practice to emphasize Preventive Medicine and formed Preventive Medicine Group. After many years of studying biochemistry, he began teaching nutrient and detoxification therapies to alternative oriented physicians. As a founding member, he was elected President of the American College for Advancement in Medicine from 1985-87 and has continued to serve as an Advisor to the Board.

The philosophy of the medical practice is that the body is a self-repairing organism with the inherent ability of the body to repair itself given the proper nutrition, detoxification and appropriate therapies. For a summary of this concept, refer to information on Derrick Lonsdale, M.D.

As a recognized expert in preventive medicine, Dr. Frackelton has lectured physicians worldwide including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Czechoslovakia and China. Dr. Frackelton has written a number of scientific articles for the medical literature. He holds two patents on medical subjects and recently authored the book, THE OWNER’S MANUAL FOR THE HUMAN BODY. He is an expert on heavy metal poisoning and its impact on the development of degenerative diseases.
